C. Harms of Attachments SELF-LOVE. |
What can a person do during THE SILENCE OF THE QUIETUDE ? |
Advantages of Detachments and JOURNEYING INWARD- LOVE FOR SELF (ACCEPTING ONESELF) |
C. Comparison steals PEACE-
(i). If comparing oneself constantly with others and one is never at PEACE (One is not realising that one is not only asking for positive experiences as the negative experiences of others tag along). For eg- If one is asking for things of the world (attachments) -Name, Contacts with the influential people, fame, status, looks, status, brands, etc. Pain, sorrow, hurts, torments etc also tag along.
i. Further these attachments raps around us layers of Self -Love, Ego, Pride, jealousy, anger, greed, sloth, gluttony and cravings. (Self-Love). Not allowing oneself to connect with “ANTAR YAMI “,“THE INNER BEING”, “THE INTERIOR SPRING”, “THE FOUNTAIN” WITHIN me is dried up and I am like a broken cistern that can hold no water.
E.g- If I am all the time comparing myself with the other, I want to be like the other person and not acknowledge or accept what I have and I am never content with myself. Not knowing that in the long run what might be right for one might not be good for me or what the other possess might not be the right thing for him/her/they either.
However, it is not for us to judge anybody -Let us do unto others what we expect to do unto us.
ii.Excessive Love for our bodies is like making gods of us. Social media drives more information on maintaining the body. To be overly worried about our health and be over concerned about our bodies, that can become a great obstacle to JOURNEYING INWARD.
While manual work is important and maintaining a fitness schedule is good, but if one is restless to go for a workout, then restlessness is a sign that one is already attached to it.
iii. Eating healthy which the body needs but not the want which is meeting the demands of the taste buds may help JOURNEYING INWARDS.
As food does not stop at the body, enters the mind. Heavy food makes the mind dull, excess food makes the mind restless. Stimulating food agitates thought. A disturbed mind cannot know silence. Therefore, eat only what keeps the body light and the breathe calm. Food is neither pleasure nor indulgence, food is support. The person JOURNEYING INWARD eats not for taste but for clarity. When food is right mind settle and mediation becomes natural.
A seeker once asked Gautama Buddha about food and desire. Gautama Buddha said, the Real Reason You Overeat (It’s Not Hunger)- He spoke about awareness.
When eating happens unconsciously, the body stops being the guide. Then desire takes over — not because the body needs more, but because the mind is restless, bored, conditioned.
Mindful eating is not a rule. It is not control. It is seeing. Seeing how taste triggers memory. Seeing how habit replaces hunger. Seeing how unconsciousness eats more than the body ever asked for.
📜 Source- Paraphrased insight inspired by early Buddhist teachings on mindfulness (sati) and the Middle Way, as found throughout the Pāli Canon (e.g., Satipaṭṭhāna and Vinaya teachings on awareness in daily acts).
The Buddha’s Middle Way begins even here —with a single bite, fully seen. Eat with awareness, and desire slowly loosens its grip. Not by force —but by understanding.
What can a person do during THE SILENCE OF THE QUIETUDE
i)One of the main outcome of ATTACHMENT IS Fear.
Fear is an imaginative worry which unnecessarily creates worries. It comes either from the knowledge of the past which is in the memory and /or uncertainties of the future which originates from the Intellect.
One falsely thinks that
– fears protect me
– that beliefs have made me what I am.
– that attachments make life exciting and secure.
ii. Fear forms layers of Self-Love which is very harmful to the SOUL. The more one JOURNEY’S INWARDS one is able to identify from which external experience (attachment) is the fear originating and griping the SOUL. For e.g.- All formats of social media are dictating our thoughts, words and deeds in almost all the areas of our lives.
One may realise that he/she/they are giving too much of importance to oneself and may withdraw /detach from the externals, thus liberates oneself from all Fears.
It is SELF-KNOWLEDGE which liberates the SOUL.
Advantages of Detachments and JOURNEYING INWARD–
LOVE FOR SELF (ACCEPTING ONESELF)
(i) By being detached we are doing ourselves and others a favour.
Have you heard this phrase “ Charity begins at home”. (It means I must love myself first). I don’t need any approval from anyone.
Do I have to go anywhere to be loved or accepted? My homeland is within me and this “JOURNEY INWARDS” IS ABOUT RETURNING HOME and BEING AT HOME WITH ONESELF (LOVING AND ACCEPTING ONESELF). This is LOVE FOR SELF.
(ii) JOURNEYING INWARD and surrendering ourselves into the hands of “THE INNER BEING” shapes and forms us inside out.
(One then allows nature to take its course as the SOUL is being led “THE DEEPEST POINT” is “THE HIGHEST POINT” “AWAKENING” the sixth sense transforming one like the clay in the hands of the Potter).
IMPORTANT: The more the person spends time in THE SILENCE OF THE QUIETUDE one is able to JOURNEY INWARDS from where comes the STRENGTH which can HOLD. THE TRUTH in THE DEEP, sets one free.
