When the child is born the experiences absorbed from the womb are rooted in the Unconscious layers of the mind (most of the time they are unknown).
But that which a person experiences through his/her /their Lifetime with the five senses is branched and stored in the Conscious layers of the mind and there is certain amount of awareness. And these layers of the mind have to be cleansed through Detachment which is done voluntarily and this requires human effort. Therefore called the ACTIVE STAGES OF THE JOURNEY.
Detachment is the precise way of acting in the world that brings “INNER PEACE”, emotional resilience, and clarity of mind. It is breaking away from Attachments or detaching from things which harm us in order to perfect our five senses. And we will then have a LIFE which is far better than we can ever imagine-Peaceful, Joyful, Hopeful, Wise, Practical, with a new perspective. It is about becoming completely aware in every situation by not allowing possessions to possess us.
This Detachment is about moving towards “PERFECT LOVE” which is wholeness. Love liberates and “PERFECT LOVE” liberates perfectly.
It does not necessarily mean renunciation. We grow into freedom through the other and we live for the other by living. As human beings our life is a life of interdependence. No one can grow into freedom by living on an island. This path is not about becoming a recluse (it is a personal choice) neither does it mean breaking away from relationships. But it is a temporary phase in most cases.
Detachment is to be done slowly, delicately and consistently. And “THE AWAKENING” leads to living a peaceful LIFE.
For e.g.- I can have a name, fame , status but not allowing the externals to possess me. Comparisons can steal PEACE.
Although a man may wear fine clothing, if he lives peacefully, and is good, self-possessed, has faith and is pure, and if he does not hurt any living being, he is a holy SOUL, a hermit of seclusion, a monk called Bhikkhu.

“भले ही एक मनुष्य ने उत्तम वस्त्र धारण किए हों, यदि वह शांतिपूर्ण जीवन जीता है, अच्छा है, आत्म–नियंत्रित है, विश्वास रखता है, शुद्ध है, और किसी भी जीवित प्राणी को चोट नहीं पहुँचाता है, तो वह एक पवित्र आत्मा है, एकांत का साधु है, एक भिक्षु है।”
