“Prarthana an inward journey”

Synopsis

We are looking for joy, happiness, peace, liberation, contentment, completeness, totality.  Compiling all this in one word is LIFE.This is the tree of life which is the depth of our soul and being. This life comes with the inner experience of Peace. We might be living a biological life but it is only through the inner experience that we truly experience life. Earlier people were nourished by this interior spring within. And it is this water which signifies life spirit in our inner being.

We have lost site of the tree of life in our inner being and we don’t take time to listen to our heart and have taken refuge in everything around us. As we forget the person within us, we forget the inner being in the people around us. Therefore, life in today’s context is all about what we acquire through our profession or societal norms rather than who we are. And this journey is about connecting with ourselves and who we are.  We have to return to our homeland which is within us.

Furthermore Spirituality transcends religion, guiding individuals to a state where love, joy, peace, morality and righteousness coexist. For centuries this inner harmony overflows in the Indian society, as exemplified by Sants, Sadhvis, Munis, and Sufis like Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Shridi Sai Baba, Basavanna Sant. Kabir Das, Guru Nanak Devji, Meera Bai, Sant Ravi Das, Sant. Tukaram and many others who had experienced light and peace and were reflecting the same in their life. Mahatma Gandhi embodied this by studying and practicing values from all faiths, fostering national harmony.

One travels into this inward journey towards peace through

  1. Quietude and Silence –Cleansing the soul, fostering self-acceptance and healing.
  2. Detachment- from external distractions to gain control over senses. Being sensitive to what is chewing us up rather than what we chew through introspection and reflection.
  3. Self-Discovery:Love and humility balances personal life and and empowers societal harmony

Inner liberation precedes external change.

Gandhiji 11 vows guided his inward journey, liberating him to lead India’s freedom struggle

His 11 vows (Ekdash Varta) were his strength:  Satya (Truth), Ahimsa (Non-Violence), Asteya (Non-Stealing), Aparigraha (Non-Possession), Brahmacharya (Chastity), Abhaya (Fearlessness), Aswada (Control of Palate), Sarvadharma Sambhava (Respect for All Faiths and cultures), Asprushyata Nevadan (Eradication of Untouchability),Swadeshi Bhavna (Patriotism), Sharira Shrama (Physical Labour).

Gandhiji could unite souls through “Prarthana” (prayer) and he was rooted in Bhakti and Seva, demonstrated inner peace and deep spirituality.
